About your trainings:

The Trauma-Conscious Yoga Method℠ with Nityda Gessel

The Trauma-Conscious Yoga Method℠ integrates trauma-conscious yoga, somatic therapy, and traditional African spiritual and healing practices. Here are some key features that set the TCYM℠ apart:

Integrative: This training goes beyond trauma-informed yoga. The Trauma-Conscious Yoga Method℠ is a marrying of Trauma-Informed Yoga with Somatic Psychotherapy and Indigenous Healing Practices. The integration of these valuable practices allows trainees to gain a deeper understanding of themselves, their students/clients, and how to support lasting trauma resolution and post-traumatic growth.

Rooted in Social Justice and Collective Healing: This training has social justice and healing justice work at its foundation. We visit not only single-incident traumas but we explore the broader and impactful power of intergenerational and systemic trauma and how we can heal collectively.

Decolonizing Yoga: We explore how to decolonize the yoga practice and the healing process itself.

We are truth-seekers. We value thinking for ourselves and championing our lived experience, while abandoning the binds of colonialism, white supremacy, & heteronormativity.

We address the systemic structures and legislation that deliberately leaves targeted groups more vulnerable to trauma and without community support.

We de-center the oppressive “norms” that replicate trauma within trauma-informed settings. We are shifting the paradigm to support the dismantling of oppressive systems within trauma-informed care.

Healing for the Helper: Through a parallel process, you will gain a deeper connection to your own body and explore body-centered healing work to support both your personal and professional growth.

Transcending Sexual Trauma Through Yoga with Zabie Yamasaki

Memories of sexually violent experiences can be intrusive, which can create challenges for survivors. These memories can also make it difficult for survivors who are looking to establish connection in their lives and learn how to trust again.

The entire experience of practicing yoga can help survivors find union between seemingly disconnected and challenging aspects of the self, allowing participants to slowly build the pieces into an integrated whole.

These novel and uncertain times can be especially challenging for survivors of sexual trauma. Trauma can leave the body. feeling dis-regulated and unsafe. Trauma-Informed yoga can help survivors gently tend to embodied trauma imprints and bring them to the surface. And with greater awareness, time, and patience, survivors often feel empowered with new tools to name and address their symptoms and survival responses and identify ways to work through them. This can ultimately lead to. a space where survivors can expand their capacity for neuroplasticity and take powerful steps towards post-traumatic growth.

Being trauma-informed is a philosophy and a systemic framework of the way we truly see people and honor their humanity. It is a lifelong commitment to learning in and doing. the work of being an ally, educating ourselves being aware of our biases, and engaging in culturally affirming practices. Transcending Sexual Trauma Through Yoga

Frequently Asked Questions:

Do I need a yoga certification to participate in the online training?

These trainings are open to folks in a variety of different fields who want to incorporate elements of trauma-informed yoga into their work, or just learn more about the modality to deepen their own practice. I started offering trainings with a broader perspective and a 200-hour yoga certification is not required. However, in order to teach yoga classes in studios or offer classes in the community, that would be recommended as the next step. This training does not provide certification to teach yoga.

Some mental health professionals incorporate seated or restorative postures into their therapy practice and they don't need to be 200-hour certified in order to do so. Others run mindfulness and trauma informed breathwork groups and it allows them to incorporate this training in a way that makes sense for them! Many survivors learn about the framework to help them in establishing a safe home practice. It's different for everyone. You can incorporate the teachings from this training in whatever way best supports your personal and professional life.

Do I receive a formal certification once I complete the online course?

Transcending Sexual Trauma through Yoga Training is recognized via Yoga Alliance. Once folks complete the online training modules, send an email to Sabrina [email protected] and she will send a pdf of a certificate of course completion. Please click here to learn more about the process of how to submit to receive your CE credits.

What is the difference between your in-person 3-day training and the online training?

The trainings are very similar in content, but everyone has different ways they like to learn (online vs. in-person)! Some enjoy the opportunity to connect with others in person and ask questions in an interactive format. Others prefer a self-paced format and to be able to control the timing of slides and content intake. I also created the online training to make these teachings more accessible and to reach folks who cannot travel to California or have not been able to participate remotely. The online training also includes lifetime access to all materials and includes 8 trauma-informed yoga classes in the survivor series.

I know the training is self-paced, but what if I have questions?

I formatted the online training in a self-paced format to make it as accessible as possible for folks to join at anytime. You are absolutely welcome to reach out to me with any questions you have as you work through the material. If you would like more in depth mentoring sessions, you can also look into those options here.

Does this training stop and start at a specific time? Or can I enroll at anytime?

This training is completely self-paced and students can join at anytime. All lectures are pre-recorded and participants can reach out to the instructor with any questions they may have.

I would like to connect with other people enrolled in the course. How do I do that?

Please e-mail Tosha at [email protected] to let her know so she can add you to the online cohort!

How do I receive my certificate after completing the training?

Please e-mail Zabie at [email protected] after completing the course and she will e-mail you a pdf copy of your certificate!

Are lectures downloadable?

The audio of each of the lectures are downloadable. While the slides and resource manual is not downloadable, you can access it at anytime by logging in to your Teachable account.

Do you offer refunds?

Unfortunately, we do not offer refunds. Zabie has poured her heart and soul into this course. Please make sure before enrolling that you read through all of the content to ensure it is the right fit for you.

Q: Will I receive a hardcopy of both manuals?

A: The first 10 people to register for the bundle course will receive a hardcopy of both manuals mailed to their home (US only) at no additional cost. We will have hardcopies of both manuals available for purchase. The cost is $50 per manual and includes shipping (US only). Please email Tosha at [email protected].
